As a provider of natural resource and energy efficiency solutions, Schneider Electric is naturally orientated toward sustainability. However, as a large industrial company, it has wider environmental and social impacts and our manager wanted to ensure these were being properly managed. It became clear from the engagement with the Lead Independent Director that there was a strong CEO-level commitment to sustainability. We discussed the targets and measures in place to monitor progress and how these are integrated into pay policies.
Particular focus was given to climate change, where the company was encouraged to manage its own emissions, monitor and reduce emissions arising in its supply chain and quantify how it is enabling its customers to cut their emissions. It has adopted a science-based target, consistent with limiting the global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
