According to Bibby's latest Business Factors Index, almost three-quarters - 72 per cent - of all small and medium-sized enterprises across the country are optimistic about their prospects in the near future.
This sentiment is also echoed among larger companies, as 47 per cent of these indicated that they felt upbeat about the future, with 17 per cent indicating the global economic downturn had actually helped them become more profitable.
Some 15 per cent of these larger firms said that they had struggled to cope under the financial pressures exerted by the recession, a fact which Bibby stated indicates robustness within this particular sector.
Meanwhile, Andrew Goodwin of Oxford Economics said recently that Britain would not benefit greatly financially by joining the euro in the foreseeable future.
