Reuters reports that London's leading stock exchange was up 41.18 points - 0.8 per cent - at 5,392.30 during the day's first session after the country's major financiers were buoyed by new regulatory proposals and positive news from their European counterparts.
Heavyweight firms such as Barclays, Lloyds and Royal Bank of Scotland led the way in the sector by adding between 4.6 and 7.4 per cent to their prices as sentiment among purchasers remained high.
Britain's major banks picked up where they left off, as many also performed well yesterday following last week's European stress tests.
Meanwhile, pharmaceutical company Astrazeneca managed to reverse its form yesterday - which saw it 1.4 per cent down around midday - to add three per cent to its stock this morning.
