What are the Climate Principles? The Climate Principles were launched in December 2008 and provide a comprehensive approach to tackling the key climate change risks and opportunities facing the finance sector. F&C’s CEO, Alain Grisay, signed The Climate Principles in January 2010 at a review of their one year anniversary during the World Economic Forum in Davos. Mr. Grisay’s speech outlining F&C’s adoption of the Principles can be found here. How is F&C tackling climate change? The primary influence of climate change on F&C’s core business is through its impact on our investment strategies. We believe that the impacts of climate change through changing regulations, physical impacts and other effects can affect the performance of the companies we invest in and so we are addressing the issue in the following ways: • F&C’s specialist Governance and Sustainable Investment Team is dedicated to assessing how governance, social and environmental issues, including climate change, impact F&C’s investments. • Our flagship responsible engagement overlay, reo®, leverages our influence as investors to encourage the companies we invest in to address the risks from climate change and take advantage of the opportunities. • We engage pubic policy makers to call for predictable, strong policies, which will give clear incentives to companies to invest in low-carbon options. • F&C’s thematic Global Climate Opportunities Fund allows our clients to invest in companies that will benefit from the transition to a low carbon economy. |
